2020 may have turned into more of a “survival” year than we hoped for back in January…
But you can still make a choice to thrive, not just survive the rest of the year!
That’s right, I said “make a choice”. It all comes down to what kind of life you want to live and what actions you take to get there.
Today, I’m going to share 6 things that must die for you to start thriving:
1. Chaos - Ok, stop laughing. I know… it’s 2020, the year of chaos around every corner! But we can still search for order and structure in our daily lives.
Life is made up of chaos and order. Known and unknown. While chaos is not bad all the time, too much chaos can be detrimental.
"You can't tolerate being swamped and overwhelmed beyond your capacity to cope while you are learning what you still need to know. You must place one foot in what you have already mastered and understood and the other in what you are currently exploring and mastering." - Jordan Peterson
You, or someone you know, may feel like you thrive off of feeling "free"… but I will argue that we all naturally search for structure, and within structure we find order. That’s where we can thrive!
2. Lack of focus - We’re all being pulled in a million directions each day, which makes it so easy to feel scattered. Scattered in action… Scattered in thought…
It’s so important to pause from time to time and reevaluate what matters to you most. Then you can make sure your biggest actions support those values.
What are you focusing on lately? Is it getting you closer to your goals?
3. Resistance to change - Give yourself permission to live the story you choose. You do not need to be the person your family saw you as when you were 15.
You are allowed to grow and change. In fact, I encourage it!
4. Negative self-talk - Whether you're jokingly putting yourself down or intentionally do so, negative self-talk takes a toll on our self-belief. If you don’t believe you can do or be something, you surely can’t!
One tool to combat this is doing affirmations. Try adding this to your daily routine and see what happens!
5. Unclear goals - Set your intention! Dig deep and ask yourself, “what do I want?” Write it down.
As you set your schedule each day, week, or month, make sure the actions you are looking to take align with your intentions.
6. Being numb - A lot of us are numb. It’s a popular state of being these days.
We go through life using things like alcohol, Netflix, social media, gambling and other coping mechanisms to numb ourselves.
We want to avoid difficult feelings or fear of the unknown future. But if we want to thrive, we have to pull ourselves into the present and ask ourselves the hardest questions.
We have to allow ourselves to feel some negative emotions so we can work through them and grow.
These are not small things to get rid of! Most people need some kind of help and accountability to make this kind of change in their life and their mindset.
One of my favorite things about what I do is watching a client shift their perspectives, beliefs, and actions as they start becoming the person they want to be!
