Say Yes To Party Food!

Have you noticed a theme throughout my blogs over the past few weeks?

I want you to enjoy the holidays!

(Without giving up on all your hard work this year towards those health and fitness goals.)

It just takes a little planning and control.

Here are 6 simple ways to eat healthy during the holiday season so you don’t pile on the pounds while you celebrate:

1. Bring your own healthy dish

This way you know you have at least one healthy option on the table. Fruit and veggies are a great choice and they can be spiced up with a healthy dip like this Dill Vegetable Dip Recipe.

You can even bring a healthier drink option like this Lemon Spritz.

2. Roasting meat and vegetables

This is one of the healthiest ways to cook and gives the food so much flavor. To enhance it up even more, be smart with your seasoning! It’s basically calorie-free and packs a punch. Use festive seasonings like orange zest, roasted garlic in the oven, sage, rosemary, parsley, clove, allspice, cinnamon and nutmeg.

3. Make simple swaps to keep the fat and calorie content down

Choose sour cream over Greek yogurt. Choose 2% milk or alternative milk (almond, oat etc.) over cream. Easy swaps like this cut down majorly on fat.

4. Bring on the soup

Soups are often forgotten during the holidays. It’s such a great way to add in veggies and lentils and beans that pack protein. Soup warms you on a chilly day and keeps you full longer because of all of the liquid.

5. Finish with fruit.

Fruit is a great dessert option. You can make homemade creams and dips for fruit. Here’s one of my favorites.

  • 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt

  • 1.5 tablespoons honey

  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla

  • A pinch of cinnamon

Mix all together and enjoy!

6. Make protein the center of your meals

Turkey is actually really healthy, as is pork tenderloin, which is often forgotten. Here’s one of my favorite pork recipes.

7. Don't let a party ruin your day

Don't forget, when you have a Holiday party you still have the rest of the day to use wisely! Get your body moving, stay hydrated and try having a protein shake before you head out! A lot of holiday treats are low in protein and a shake will help you stay full longer!

Don’t feel like you have to skip all the celebrations this year… or worse, overindulge and feel overwhelmed with guilt by your eating choices.

Say yes to party food the smart way!

Happy Holidays!
